Undersea Technology Apprentice Program Summer 2014
This summer there will be three Sessions of the Undersea Technology Apprenticeship Program (UTAP). The Undersea Technology Apprentice Program was developed to provide an opportunity for up to 20 students to work part-time for three weeks during the summer along side Undersea Science & Engineering Foundation (USEF) Inc. &/or NavalUndersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) scientists and engineers. In the process, students gain valuable insights by working with advanced technology while developing real world applications of science and math lessons learned at school.
The 1st session, run by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) conducted during the first part of July, is done in partnership with Newport & New Bedford High School. The 2nd session, run by the Undersea Science & Engineering Foundation (USEF) Inc. conducted during the end of July & start of August is in Partnership with Portsmouth & Middletown high school. The 3rd session, run by NUWCDIVNPT , conducted during the middle to end of August. It is not done in partnership with any specific school. It is open to the public.
Specifically the “open session” will run from July 21 to Aug 8th , 2014. Students are required to attend program sessions each day from 0800 – 1200. Student applications will be evaluated on transcripts, letter of recommendation and essays. In order to provide the opportunity to as many students as possible, new applicants will be given first priority.
Students must be 16 years of age and be United States citizens. The program is open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors only. Students who attend all sessions and complete the program will receive a $750 stipend. The program application is attached. The application deadline is April 18th, 2014. Please note that all application materials must be included for a student to be considered for an internship.
